Using Data to Make Your Case

Featuring Presenters: Beth Tuttle, President & CEO, Cultural Data Project and Jacoba Knaapen, Executive Director, Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts

At this team-based participatory session, we will use data to make a compelling case. We’ll hear about the strategy that helped contribute to Toronto’s recent advocacy win at the municipal level, and get a brief introduction to the Cultural Data Project. Then we’ll devote the bulk of the session to working in small teams to craft effective advocacy stories working with sample CDP data. Using a scenario-based approach, each team will have the opportunity to analyze a data set, digest and interpret key points and then frame a two-minute “pitch” to the larger group. At the end, we’ll debrief what worked most effectively and why.
